Carolyn Neuman, Our Eighth Rhodes Awardee

Carolyn Neuman's many contributions to Cornell were recognized when she was selected as a 2012 recipient of the Frank H.T. Rhodes Award for Exemplary Alumni Service.

The award is given in recognition of extraordinary service to Cornell, in both length and quality of contribution by the individual, through activities within the broad spectrum of Cornell's various alumni organizations, associations, and related groups.

Previous '64 awardees include Nancy Taylor Butler, Marcia Goldschlager Epstein, Emmett W. (Mac) McCorkle III, Carol Britton MacCorkle, Robert Goldfarb, Bartion  Mills and Nancy Dunhoff Mills.

Carolyn was a guest of honor at a dinner on September 21, 2012, during Homecoming Weekend, where she received her award and graciously offered her appreciation. Carolyn was accompanied by her husband John '62. Also attending were classmates Marcia Goldschlager Epstein and Bruce Wagner. Here is the brief bio published in the dinner program.

Carolyn has been a supporter of Cornell for many years and extremely active at the highest levels of university service. She and her husband, John '62, have given generously to many areas of the university.

Carolyn is a trustee emerita, having served on the Board of Trustees since 2001. She is also a presidential councillor (named in 2009), life member of the Cornell University Council (named in 2001), past chair of the Cornell University Council, first joining in 1988, and past president of the Cornell Association of Class Officers (CACO).

She currently serves on advisory councils for the Plantations, Library, Human Ecology and Fraternities and Sororities, while also giving her time to the Cornell MOSAIC Executive Committee and the Class of 1964, for which she served as president and fundraiser. In addition, Carolyn has been a member of the President's Council of Cornell Women (PCCW) since 2001.

Carolyn and John have two children, Nancy Neuman CALS '90 and Scott Neuman CALS '93, MBA '99. Other Cornellians in the family include son Scott's wife Amy Karlen Neuman AAP '93, John's brother Robert Neuman AAP '58, and Carolyn's late father Richard Chauncey CALS '41.
